The Parish of Richmond is a three-church parish situated in western New Brunswick, between the town of Woodstock and the New Brunswick-Maine border.  Ministry in this area dates from the mid-1800s.  It is a thriving and growing parish today , with new ministry initiatives being offered to both the people in the church and in the community.

A Weekend of Open Houses, Baptisms, and Bowling?!?

A wild weekend was had in the parish! It started off on Saturday, with the grand Open House at the new St. John’s Church and Parish Centre. The hall was set to host many people, and provide refreshments to all. And they came. It as hard to know just how many were there over the course of the afternoon, though a good guess might be 140-150 people. The Ven. Geoffrey Hall, Executive Archdeacon, was on hand to represent the Bishop, who is recovering from knee surgery. He led a short service of blessing for the new place. Guided tours were also a part of the afternoon, as was a slideshow presentation that was running on the projector throughout the day.
If that wasn’t a lot, there was also four baptisms that took place on Sunday! A bit of history was made, as the two adults, one child, and one infant were the first folks to be baptized in the new church. It was especially great to see that the Sunday School had finished their day’s activities in time to join the congregation for the baptism, and they got to see everything happen right in front of them (the back pews were reserved for them!). The font (which had been brought over from the old church) looked wonderful, as it had just recently been significantly cleaned up. There were enough food items left over to provide a light lunch for everyone after the service.
And if THAT wasn’t enough, the youth group went bowling that evening! Members of the Junior youth group from St. Luke’s in Woodstock joined our combined middle- and high school youth group for a evening at the lanes. Later on, the remaining senior group played an extra frame, features girls on one team, guys on the other. In the photo here, you can see that the guys were looking rather, uhh... “humble.” Maybe that should read, “humbled.” The girls were queens of the lane that evening.
